X2Engine Releases Next Generation Open Source CRM Application Drops GPL for BSD Open Source License

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2012 X2Engine today announced the general availability of X2CRM, a next generation open source, Social Sales Management application. Founded in 2011 by CRM software entrepreneur and SugarCRM co-founder John Roberts, X2CRM has been in world wide beta since September 2011 and has been installed on over 1,000 public and private cloud servers across 75 countries.

“We are very excited about the success of our world wide beta program. Though developed by our core engineering team the daily feedback from our global open source community has definitely helped make X2CRM one of the best new sales systems introduced over the past several years. We feel very confident that X2CRM will become the open source CRM leader in the coming years.” In today’s global economy, all companies need sales management systems in order to be competitive. The problem has been these applications both in the cloud and on private servers have become incredibly complex as well as costly to implement. X2CRM was designed to streamline contact and sales actions into a compact, social user interface.

X2CRM Key Features Web and Facebook Lead Capture Forms Lead Nurturing, Scoring and Intelligent Routing Contact Activity Management Sales Process Work-flow Engine Email Correspondence Product and Sales Quotes User Profile Pages and Activity Streams Field Security, Roles and Sales Teams Visual Form Editor for Admins Reporting Dashboard iPad and Mobile Device Apps For a live demonstration, a detailed feature list and screen shot library please visit http://www.x2engine.com. X2CRM takes advantage of the latest open source software including Apache, PHP, MySQL and Linux (LAMP). X2Studio, an administrative tool, allows developers to create and share new application modules without any programming knowledge. Additionally X2CRM supports HTML5, iPad, iPhone and Android mobile phones. X2CRM is fully internationalized and has been localized into six languages with more on the way. X2CRM can be downloaded from GitHub, Code.Google.com and SourceForge.net, and is released under the BSD license. X2Engine plans to roll out commercial support and private virtual server hosting packages in March with additional details to be provided in the near future.

Drops GPL for BSD Open Source License Additionally, the company announced today that it had chosen to discontinue use of the GPVv3 license in favor of the less restrictive BSD license.

“Initially we released X2Engine beta versions under the GPLv3 license, which is still a great license. But considering that we do not include any GPL code (some LGPL) in our distro it did not make sense for us to force our community to use a license that we do not ourselves use,” said John Roberts. “This change to the BSD makes it much easier for developers and end customers to use and extend X2Engine without the copyleft restrictions of the GPL or AGPL licenses.” Supporting Resources X2Engine.com Live Demonstration Download Sites Feature list X2Engine on Twitter X2Community About X2Engine X2Engine Inc. of Santa Cruz, California was founded in 2011 by John Roberts, a Customer Relationship Management and Open Source software entrepreneur.
