Crowds at Texas Tech University's Jones AT&T Stadium Served by ADC's Wireless Solutions

July 22, 2010

Texas Tech University’s Jones AT&T Stadium will have high-capacity cellular services with the deployment of ADC’s (News - Alert) InterReach Fusion and FlexWave Prism distributed antenna systems or DAS. An announcement in this regard has been made by ADC which provides the connections for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast, and enterprise networks around the world.

The Phase I construction of the 52,000-seat stadium included a renovation worth $84 million and a construction of a new, 175,000 square foot West Side Stadium Building. The ADC DAS was deployed after the Phase I construction. Any AT&T (News - Alert) subscriber within the complex can now place calls and use mobile broadband services, even during capacity-crowd events with this deployment.

In a release, David Hougland who is the director of sports broadcasting for Texas Tech University said, “We often have more than 50,000 fans in our stadium for a game and they had problems placing calls or had calls drop. Now, with the ADC system, we have the capacity to handle the call needs of our fans.”

A combination of the FlexWave Prism higher power nodes and the InterReach Fusion low power nodes is included by the ADC systems deployed at the stadium. 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies for users of AT&T’s 2G and 3G mobile voice and data services will be supported by the system. Coverage is divided into nine specific sectors by the system. This will ensure that any portion of the stadium has maximum frequency re-use and maximum available bandwidth.

In a release, John Spindler (News - Alert) who is the VP of product management for ADC said, “Our combination of Prism and Fusion deliver a one-two punch to the capacity challenges at Texas Tech. The Prism remote units cover large areas of the stadium seating, while the Fusion system brings coverage inside the West Side Stadium Building. This is a great example of how ADC’s broad product portfolio allows us to create precision coverage and capacity solutions for any venue.”

Service providers and enterprises can deliver high-performance wireless coverage and capacity to business and consumer subscribers in any indoor or outdoor location with products from ADC’s Network Solutions (News - Alert) Business Unit. For more information on ADC, visit the company’s website at
