ZTE Expands Presence in US with More NBA Partnerships

October 29, 2014

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Smartphone manufacturer ZTE (News - Alert) began its sponsorship with the Houston Rockets in October last year. Now, a little more than a year later, it has announced its official sponsorship with two more professional basketball teams – the New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors.

According to the announcement, ZTE will continue its year-long relationship with the Rockets and expand its presence in the NBA for the 2014/2015 season with the other two teams. The partnerships with the Knicks and Warriors will reportedly show ZTE’s commitment to creating a presence in the U.S. as well as its generosity in supporting charities—such as the Rockets’ Season of Giving, the Knicks’ Garden of Dreams, and the Warriors’ Community Phone (News - Alert) Drive. Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA commented on the latest development.

“This announcement reinforces our commitment to building the ZTE brand in the United States and highlights our commitment to investing in the communities in which we live and work,” Cheng said. "These three teams are a perfect match as strategic partners for ZTE's corporate sponsorship in the US, and combined, ZTE and all three global brands bring powerful line-ups that will excite both sports and tech enthusiasts across the country.”

The Knicks’ commented that ZTE will soon be synonymous with a “world-class franchise” and will, with the new partnership, have a platform to show off its brand to all Knicks fans in the tri-state area. The Golden State Warriors said the partnership would certainly arrive to the delight of the team’s fans. They also hinted at the desire for the relationship to continue for several years to come.

TMC (News - Alert) previously reported on the partnership with the Rockets. It said fans would be able to see ZTE products displayed at Rocket events and within television and digital ads. Although ZTE did not expand on the nature of how it would work with the Knicks and the Warriors, it is likely that similar ad coverage will take place with those teams. ZTE says it is one of the fastest-growing handset manufacturers in the U.S. and currently holds the spot as the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the states. It also holds a strong presence in the prepaid and Android (News - Alert) markets.
