Biodex Helps You Test and Improve Balance, Agility and Develop Muscle Tone

May 12, 2011

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Biodex Medical Systems recently released a new version of their Balance System SD, which is a tailored balance assessment and conditioning system that has been specifically released for athletes and seniors. The Biodex Balance System SD comes with a lot more enhanced features that have been custom designed to meet the needs of individuals who are looking for ways to improve balance, increase their agility, develop muscle tone and to also treat a wide variety of pathologies.

The new system is an excellent tool in the fields of Fall Prevention, pre- and post-surgical rehab and also serves as a neurorehabilitation tool for balance and mobility programs. The Balance System SD also provides both testing and training in both static and dynamic formats.

Statistics show that more than seven million doctor visits in a year occur due to complaints of dizziness, loss of balance and vertigo; which clearly shows that there is a demand to properly diagnose and treat with accurate technology. The Balance System SD comes with five test protocols and six training modes. The new features include a larger 12-inch intuitive “touch screen,” upgraded software and a built-in interactive “Catch Game” which is used for balance training and keeps track of a patient’s progressing skills. It is extremely versatile and is currently the only system that provides fast, accurate Fall Risk Screening and Conditioning for older adults. All results get delivered within a few minutes and the information provides critical data for use in determining the best therapy, in order to reduce recovery time.

When clinicians use the Balance System SD, they will have the option to assess neuromuscular control, by quantifying the ability to maintain dynamic bilateral and unilateral postural stability on a static or unstable surface. The ability to accurately diagnose and immediately begin treating patients to regain greater balance and control after surgery or an athletic injury is critical.

The Balance System SD is also being used by many organizations in concussion management, in conjunction with their Play It S.A.F.E. software, to help answer the question, “Can this athlete return to play?”
