LiveU Announces Live Video Support for High Profile Sporting Events

December 18, 2013

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

LiveU (News - Alert), a provider of portable live video-over-cellular solutions, said that it has made necessary provisions to support the upcoming major sports events in 2014 ranging from the FIFA World Cup and Sochi Winter Olympics, to U.S. Collegiate Championships, and the Super Bowl.

The company has supposedly bought solutions, tweaked its transmission capabilities, publicized sports rental packages and charted end-to-end workflows in order to cater to the requirements of media outlets, and professional, and collegiate sports organizations.

Samuel Wasserman, chief executive officer at LiveU, remarked, “Right from the outset when we introduced our cellular uplink technology at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, our technology provided a new level of opportunity and creativity that sports broadcasters and online outlets embraced with open arms. For the 2010 South Africa World Cup we deployed over three dozen cellular bonding units. The level of deployment at the 2012 London Olympics was truly spectacular with over 100 units on the ground during the games. We expect even bigger numbers at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.”

LiveU explained that its solutions allow one to transmit HD quality video from anywhere, even on the move, without the need for satellite trucks or hardwired connections. It has termed itself as a satellite truck in a backpack and it can also bond together all available cellular and other data connection to transmit high-quality video, which is then sent to users’ existing video platform or CDN, to complement their existing video workflows with additional compelling content.

With the management of all the solutions handled over the LiveU Central cloud-based management and control platform, the company also offers additional technology, production, and distribution services through its expertise and partners.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil will see over 30 countries participating and LiveU along with its partners will ensure that the networks, stations, and online media from those participants are well supported.

While at the Super Bowl XLVIII, which takes place in LiveU’s own backyard of NY/NJ, it has implemented the necessary arrangements to support the networks that are used in covering the game and the teams directly.

LiveU added that it will also help power multiple collegiate championships across the U.S. in late 2013 and throughout 2014 on behalf of The American Athletics Conference, West Coast Conference, Big Sky, Mountain West, Big East, and others.
