Glowpoint Cloud Services to Enable Live NFL Draft Interviews

April 24, 2012

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

With the National Football League’s (NFL) annual draft just a few days away, football fans are eagerly awaiting to hear about their team’s latest recruits as soon as they’re picked up.

For the tenth year running, Glowpoint (News - Alert) is providing support for live high-definition interviews during draft coverage. Live coverage of the draft will air on ESPN (News - Alert) starting Thursday, at 8:00 am EST from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Glowpoint’s cloud-managed broadcast video services will enable the sports network to conduct interviews between ESPN hosts at Radio City Music Hall, analysts at the broadcast studio, and team players and officials throughout the United States

The OpenVideo cloud uses IP networking and telepresence technology to deliver HD video broadcasts with low latency. The company touts the solution as a cost-effective alternative to traditional satellite broadcasts. The ESPN interviews that Glowpoint is powering will often use a split-screen format.

"We will continue to invest in the OpenVideo cloud architecture to provide the highest quality cloud managed video services for the widest range of customer applications for visual communication," said Darren Podrabsky, vice president of marketing and channels for Glowpoint.

The firm also provides similar services for professional basketball draft broadcasts, along with a suite of cloud-managed video services for a number of broadcasters. Glowpoint has almost 500 customers. The company offers call support for Skype (News - Alert) and Google Talk on its OpenVideo cloud, while it claims its expanded business-to-business video exchange services allow business customers to collaborate more easily with more partners.

Glowpoint’s turn-key broadcast solution includes HD video endpoint technology, system integration with setup for broadcast, and onsite support for live broadcasts. The company aims to provide businesses of all sizes with scalable, secure and high-quality videoconferencing and telepresence services.
