Twins Fans Can Now Win Pre-Loaded U.S. Bank Card

May 24, 2010

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

New contactless payment technology at Target Field will be available for free use for 10 lucky Minnesota Twins fans seated in the U.S. Bank Home Run Porch at each home game.

A U.S. Bank MasterCard PayPass fob, preloaded with $10 will be given to the winners which can be used at any concession stand within the U.S. Bank Home Run Porch.

A reader will be located at the check-out at any U.S. Bank Home Run Porch concession stand. Patrons will need to tap the fob at this reader to pay for their purchases. A green light on the reader along with a beep will indicate to the patrons that the purchase is complete. Baseball fans and cashiers can now avoid fumbling with cash and coins with the contactless payment technology.

According to Beth Blaisdell, SVP, payment services, U.S. Bank, the wait at the concession areas will speed up with the contactless payment technology. As a result, fans will not miss any action on the field when they want to grab refreshments. The company was thrilled to partner with the Twins to bring this innovative technology to Target Field.

U.S. Bank's commitment to bringing convenient and innovative new technology options to customers is shown by the Oberthur Technologies’ manufactured fobs, officials said.

Martin Ferenczi, MD, Card System Division, Americas Region, Oberthur Technologies said the company knows that the users will truly benefit from the contactless payment technology, due to decrease in point-of-sale transaction time and increased convenience as compared to standard payments. Apart from the increased potential use by the consumer it is also beneficial and appealing to the issuers and merchants, added Ferenczi.

The key partnership details between U.S. Bank and the Twins include naming rights to the U.S. Bank Home Run Porch, a family-friendly seating deck located in left field. Prominent ballpark marketing and enhanced community involvement with the Twins Community Fund is also included. The official card of the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Twins Rewards MasterCard is also issued by U.S. Bank.

The first 5,000 kids under 14 will also receive a Denard Span jersey on U.S. Bank Day at Target Field when the Twins take on the Rangers.
