In its nine month presence in the sports news industry, Sportsmanias.com has reportedly recorded an impressive 500,000 unique visitors. The new investment is no doubt going to help it further reinforce its presence in the sports news industry.
Sportsmanias.com was launched in October 2012 as a completely new approach to reach and interact with sports fans by providing them with custom sports feeds from the top sources. In its effort to make sports news personalized and easily accessible for the sports enthusiasts, the company has earlier launched the free Team News app for iOS and Android (News - Alert). The app keeps the die hard fans on top of their team news with the scoops coming from the top beat journalists. The company’s partnership with with NFL star wide receiver Julio Jones, and Jeremy Maclin of the Philadelphia Eagles, has also contributed to the site’s tremendous popularity.
A part of Mas Equity Partner's investments have been utilized by the company to roll out key updates to its Team News mobile app. As part of this upgrade, the company included a Rumor Filter, which collects league and team-specific rumors from top rumor sites, and a Video Filter, which aggregates footage from YouTube and Twitter (News - Alert) that fans often miss.
Sportsmanias is the brainchild of Miami-based mother/son duo, Aymara Del Aguila and Vicente J. Fernandez. While Vicente is in charge of Sportsmanias’ contents, Aymara, an experienced advertising executive handles the marketing side of this highly popular sports news site. Both of them are focused on enhancing digital news experience for sports enthusiasts and presenting them a sports space where avid fans can get the content they want, how they want it.
For the sports enthusiasts, Sportsmanias has filled a void in the sports industry by combine the speed and convenience of social media with the intelligence and depth of traditional journalism. It is the speed with which Sportsmanias delivers news, tweets, scores, schedules and standings that made it so popular among today’s savvy sports enthusiasts.
“Sportsmanias is the future of sports news. Their team has figured out how to combine the speed and convenience of social media with the intelligence and depth of traditional journalism,” founder of Mas Equity Partners Jorge Mas, noted in a statement.
The filters use a proprietary algorithm to mine rumors and videos in real-time. The updated app also features easier navigation, improved visuals, a scoreboard for games in progress and keyword searches that allow fans to further customize their newsfeed.
With its current growth rate, Sportsmanias hopes to reach 1.5 million Unique Monthly Visitors by the end of this year, Del Aguila revealed in a statement.
