PERFORM Delivers Live Sports via Digital Rapids
PERFORM has deployed 150 StreamZ Live encoders and the Broadcast Manager multi-encoder automation software from Digital Rapids, to support the live streaming of premium sports content over a variety of devices and platforms.
"The combination of Digital Rapids' (News - Alert) StreamZ Live encoders and the Broadcast Manager software have led to significant savings in our operational costs,” said Andy Measham, PERFORM's Chief Operating Officer. “We schedule 25,000 live events per year, with Broadcast Manager remotely and automatically managing all of the encoders. Digital Rapids provides the very best automation and every encoder endures being pushed to its absolute limit 24/7. The low latency of the StreamZ Live encoders is also crucial for the delivery of live sports content on the Web."
Each of the StreamZ Live encoders can generate 25 output profiles for each single input source over various viewing platforms. The encoders use Akamai's Intelligent Platform and the Mirror Image Internet's Dynamic Delivery Network to deliver streams while HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Adobe (News - Alert) HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) technology solutions support adaptive bit rate HD and mobile delivery.
The encoders also use the RTMP protocol for ensuring reduced latency streaming via Adobe Flash. Automation and easy management of the extensive deployment structure is facilitated through the Broadcast Manager software.
"Our business has grown significantly in the past five years, and our aim is to continually grow and develop our platform to support the ever-increasing demands on it,” said Howard Kitto, Chief Technical Officer of PERFORM. “The massive growth in the proliferation of devices such as smartphones and tablets, along with the 'connected' capabilities of almost every new television set, open up tremendous new opportunities for premium live streaming content."
Digital Rapids’ StreamZ Live encoders deliver high reliability, flexibility and performance capabilities, and have been designed to support multi-screen content distribution across devices such as tablets and mobile phones, game consoles, PCs and “smart” TVs. The Broadcast Manager software from Digital Rapids optimizes multi-channel operations.
"PERFORM are visionaries in commercialising sports content across the ever-expanding range of network-enabled digital platforms,” said Clive Vickery, Managing Director, EMEA and Asia at Digital Rapids.
