February 16, 2012

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Vinny Guadagnino convinced 2.7 million Twitter (News - Alert) followers to ask the NBA to add him to this year’s All-Star Jam Session. Guadagnino will join the likes of Common, Ne-Yo, J.B. Smoove, Kevin Hart, Javier Colon and Drew and Jonathan Hart of “Property Brothers.” Former NBA players Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson and Mitch Richmond will also participate, as will WNBA player Tamika Catchings.

Guadagnino is a member of the cast of MTV reality series Jersey Shore. He has also starred in MTV’s comedy series The Hard Times of RJ Berger. In his spare time, Guadagnino works with anti-bullying charities and takes acting classes. Apparently, he also plays basketball.

The Celebrity All-Star team will be coached by Dwight Howard, center for the Orlando Magic, and Kevin Durant, forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The matchup will take place with coverage starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 24.

Ticketholders for the Celebrity Game will also be admitted to the All-Star Jam Session. Fans of all ages will be allowed to shoot alongside NBA All-Stars and to learn tips and tricks from their favorite players. NBA All-Stars will also offer free autographs during the event. On Saturday, February 25, stars will participate in a Three-Point Contest. The next day, they will participate in a Celebrity Skills Contest and a Celebrity Shooting Stars event.

Last year’s Celebrity Jam Session lineup included Justin Bieber, Joel McHale and Rob Kardashian. Bieber was named Most Valuable Player even though his team lost when he failed to hit a last minute three-point shot.

The NBA will be teaming with Sprint (News - Alert) not only for their All-Star game but also for their All-Star E-Recycling Day, which will be held at Orlando’s Festival Park on Saturday, February 18. Fans who drop off aging computers, cell phones or other electronics for proper recycling will receive two tickets per car to the Jam Session on Friday, February 24. The Jam Session will be held at the Orange County Convention Center.
