Wolfram|Alpha Teams with STATS to Bring Constant Stats to Football Fans
(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)
If there is one known fact about football aficionados, it’s that they are avid guzzlers of statistics, scores, and hot news about NFL teams, its players and more. With this in mind, STATS LLC (News - Alert), the world’s leading sports information provider, and Wolfram|Alpha have teamed up to bring stats to fans everywhere.
Wolfram|Alpha is a research company with a goal of making all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. By adding NFL data to its knowledge base, it can now offer football fans concise statistical summaries, visualizations of the team and player performance.
Football fans can use the computational knowledge engine and explore statistics for every NFL game that has been played for the past 25 years. This allows fans to enter a query into its search engine and then returns a large number of links that fans can delve into.
"Since Wolfram|Alpha launched in 2009, our users have pushed us to allow them to explore sports data in a way that is only possible with Wolfram|Alpha," said Luc Barthelet, executive director of Wolfram|Alpha.
According to Barthelet, there were plenty of online resources available to provide fans with big, static tables of team or player statistics, however Wolfram Alpha (News - Alert) was the only one that was positioned to give direct answers to specific questions, through “an intuitive natural-language interface.”
The partnership empowers fans and viewers with the ability to ask just about any question in Wolfram|Alpha with STATS data, according to company officials.
Wolfram|Alpha plans to extend this ability to other sports by including data on baseball, basketball, and other professional sports. In addition, it is also enhancing its computing knowledge to include everyday information that is useful for shoppers, consumers and almost anybody with a question.
In other news, STATS announced that the company will power Inmotio coaching software with its SportVU player tracking technology for the ultimate in advanced match analysis for football. The compatibility of SportVU tracking and Inmotio software will appeal to a wide range of users – including technical directors, coaches, video analysts and fitness instructors – for match analysis.
