(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

NIKE, Inc. and TomTom have come together to introduce the new Nike+Sportwatch GPS powered by Tomtom. The running watch was recently unveiled in the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show.

Nike said in a release that the watch will enable the athletes a completely new motivational experience combined together with elegant design, unique functionality and direct connection to the Nike website at www.nikeplus.com. This site is one of the world’s leading communities with around 4 million members.

The Nike+ Sportswatch GPS delivers all the necessary information that the athlete will ever need during his run performance. The athlete can personalize its features according to his running experience. He can also set up audible sounds, run reminders, challenges and more.

Stefan Olander, VP of Nike Digital Sport said, “The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is a game-changing product that furthers our commitment to provide all athletes with unparalleled motivation and the tools to get better.”

The Nike watch will soon be available in all major retail stores. Consumers can also buy it online in the U.K. and U.S. April 1 onwards. Distribution will increase in full swing after July 1. The watch was reviewed by consumers at Nikerunning.com and TomTom (News - Alert).com.

Said Corinne Vigreux, MD of Tomtom Consumer, “It is part of TomTom Consumer’s strategy to move into the fast-growing sports and fitness market. This true partnership with Nike combines the strengths of two leading companies to deliver a game-changing product for runners.”

The Nike watch has only 3 buttons through which you can access all the functions. There is a tap screen for navigation. When the athlete runs, the watch captures the location information and also shows statistics such as distance covered, calories, pace and time of completing the race.
